Commonwealth Youth Awards

Location: London

Attendees: 150 People

VIPs: Baroness Scotland

It is funny what happens when you do what you love. I hosted the Ghana’s official independence celebrations and despite the feedback, I wasn’t that happy with my performance. While I was getting ready to head off, one of the Commonwealth Secretariat employees told me how much he enjoyed my hosting and how he would like me to host the Common Youth Awards. I asked him when it would be and he said the following week!!! Wow! Immediately I questioned my abilities and weather I have enough time to prepare. Despite the short timeframe, and the self doubt, I said yes, It was an opportunity to show my skills and work with a co-host I had never worked with before.

On event day, I put on my finest Senegalese bubu and gave everything I had. I made sure that finalists who had been shortlisted for awards were acknowledged for their dedication, vision and leadership qualities injecting humour at the right times. What is funny is all the High Commissioners that I met at the Ghana Independence Day celebrations were there and it was great to reconnect and show what i can really do. I also had the opportunity to work with Baroness Scotland QC.

What I learned: Progress is not always smooth. Learn at every opportunity and believe in yourself.

Testimonial: “ML-Q was simply excellent. His professionalism was exhibited from the begnning he was early, prepared and came with ideas on how to make the awards even more impactful. He say our vision and turned it into reality.'“
